Windows Live OneCare (Microsoft’s attempt at an antivirus program) has apparently been identifying Gmail as a virus. Whenever anyone would go to Gmail’s website, it would tell them that their computer just got infected with the virus BAT/BWG.A. Supposedly it was a mistake, but I just don’t understand why they would identify a normal website, like Gmail, as a security risk. Earlier this year, OneCare incorrectly identified Computrace LoJack- a program that helps trace stolen laptops- as a virus, and disabled it. I can understand that, because LoJack broadcasts your computer’s location over the internet, so it could easily be mistaken for spyware. But I see no reason for why OneCare would think Gmail is a virus. Microsoft, keep on trying…
